Alaska Rhodiola was founded by Dr. Petra Illig to offer an ethical and sustainable source of Rhodiola rosea, a highly valued traditional medicinal plant of the Far North. It has been used by circumpolar peoples for centuries for its ability to improve mental focus and physical stamina, and is known as a powerful adaptogen. Now considered an endangered species, she introduced it to Alaskan farmers in 2010 to produce the finest cultivated Rhodiola rosea roots on the planet. Rather than sell their harvests to large botanical companies, she built an extraction lab in Alaska for local production of tinctures and capsules, and sells thousands of units through her online store, in health food stores, and wellness centers throughout the country.

It is a complex agroforestry system, which includes a wide diversity of medicinal herbs, trees, shrubs, hedgerows, berries, vegetables and culinary herbs. We even use the "weeds" as crops! Dandelion, anyone? We apply permaculture and restorative land practices. Our goal is healthy plants, a healthy ecosystem and good yields.
